A strip mall in Atlanta, Ga. is the origin of the Big Green Egg (BGE). It was invented back in 1974 by a guy named Ed Fisher. The idea was borrowed from the Oriental concept of ceramic cooking known as kamado. BGE is now the world’s largest producer of this type of grill which is now the fastest growing category of cooker in the U.S. They also sell their EGG in 20 other countries around the world. The EGG comes in 5 sizes and can be coordinated with 100 different accessories.

With television programs like The Today Show, The View and channels like HGTV and Chefs like Bobby Flay touting it, the marketing needs little more than word of mouth. A champion barbecue cheg, Dr. BBQ, uses the EGG exclusively around the country. The passion that owners of the grill have is contagious.

The EGG can handle about any type of weather due to it’s construction with space age ceramics. It doesn’t matte what climate you live in, the EGGs are going to do the job for you. The 5 sizes are from mini to extra large. You can get additional products from BGE like natural lump charcoal, untensils, space extenders, cleaning tools and pizza stones.

It also comes with a DVD with cooking instructions for novice grill chefs. And if you want to make an impact, you can purchase coordinated apparel from BGE as well.

When you purchase a Big Green Egg Grill, here’s what you’ll get:

* You don’t need lighter fluid and it will be hot enough to cook in 10 minutes

* Heat is retained within the ceramic walls for even and accurate temperature throughout.

* No extra charcoal is needed because you can reuse unburned charcoal

* No flare-ups within the enclosed EGG.

* The EGG’s temperature tolerance is 0F to 1800F

* Smoke a chicken in Janurary

* Don’t worry about the kids, the outside surface is always cool

* Rust proof

* Keeps meat nice and moist

Anything is possible on this grill, from main dishes, to side dishes to desserts. It’s so dynamic that you can sear, grill on high, or slow smoke a chicken. Unlike other grills, all you need to do is put in some natural lump charcoal, turn it on and it’s ready in 10 minutes

The XL EGG has 425 square inches of cooking surface and can cook two twenty pound turkeys, 24 hamburgers, 11 whole chickens, 12 steaks, or 14 racks of ribs. In comparison, the Large will cover 255 square inches while cooking a twenty-pound turkey, a dozen burgers, half a dozen chickens and some steaks and ribs.

If you’re looking for something a bit smaller, the Small EGG comes in at 133 square inches of cooking surface. That’ll cook a 12 pound turkey, 4 burgers, a chicken, 2 steaks or a rack of ribs. If you want something portable, the Mini Big Green Egg is great for camp outs. It’ll cook a couple of chicken breasts, a couple of pork chops or a steak.

Whichever one is right for you, you can find them around the world at places like Barbecues Galore, High Country Outfitters and online at Amazon.com
