When I think of a contemporary look, I think of minimal and simple, as opposed to overly decorative furniture and cabinetry. I would like to touch on the type of paint that should be used in the kitchen area. It is a great idea to use satin paint instead of flat. You can easily wipe the walls of the kitchen with satin paint. It is nearly impossible to wipe flat paint. Flat paint was made to paint other rooms in the home such as the living room. There is not food mess in those areas.

Since the walls and cabinetry are lighter in color, you can now choose a brighter color to add interest to the kitchen. A few things that come to mind would be art work, candles and flowers. That is just to start, I would add a couple pieces of colorful pottery.
